male biphobia?
Do you think men can be biphobic? Usually, it's lesbians and bisexual women that have beef with each other. I don't hear men argue as much about it. I wonder if bisexual men have a plus because they would be perceived as more butch. Maybe with gay male tolerance of non-monogamy, there's more of a "So? And?" when it comes to guys who kick it with both genders.

But then again, I can't say I've heard of anyone on LJ identify as a bisexual man. There's a women's book called "Closer to Home: Bisexuality and Feminism" which states that maybe sexual orientation is a male secondary sex characteristic, but that women may learn or be pushed into their sexual choices. Maybe most guys are either Kinseyan 0s or 6s. But I read a book by Fred Whitam that looked at Brazil, Guatemala, and the Philippines and it said that outside of the US there is much contact between 1s and 6s.

You think a bisexual bear would have an easy to coming out or a hard time?

Oh, there's APLENTY bi-men on livejournal.
I think that there has long been issues within the gay male community about bisexuals.
And I think most het men just don't talk about these things usually.
But that's my own experience.
You want to check out a bi bear. See "trapezebear"'s journal.
He's even written a book about bisexuality.
I think he's kinda groovy.

I have had very mixed reactions from people when they learned that I am bisexual, ranging from excitement, indifference and disgust. It all depends on how open-minded the other person is. As strange as it may sound, I have found that gay men are more likely to have a problem with it than straight men.

two questions

1. Who treats you better: straight women or gay men?

2. If I remember correctly, your bunny ears photo reveals that you have nipple rings. I know neo-punk music is in, but I'd still say titty rings are associated with gay men. So when you lift your shirt off around straight women suitors, how do they respond?

1. Well, while I receive positive and negative feedback on both sides, the gay men I have associated with have an easier time accepting that I like women than straight women have accepting that I like men.

2. I know a lot of straight men with nipple rings, and women don't seem to think much of it. I get the occasional questions about how it felt, or why I did it, but that is it.

One of my most extensive research papers in college was on Biphobia. I'd say it's widespread all around.

As [info]azrael162 said, I'd believe that gay men are more likely to have a problem, simply because they don't take the bi identity seriously. Since many gay men, when first exploring their sexualities, identified as bi and then later gay, they assume that 'bi' isn't a real identity, but rather a stepping stone to 'gay'. Many also see it as a gay man's feeble attempt at holding onto being straight and being 'normal.'
